Clinical: Dental Hygienist/Assistant/Lab - Career Choices

Job Description:

Jobs in this category support and assist the Dentist, Orthodontist and Oral Surgeon in their care of patients; by direct patient care, maintaining supplies and equipment, and creating oral devices used by patients:

Denturist

  • Dental Technician who specializes in making and repairing dentures.

Dental Laboratory Technician

  • Make and repair dentures, crowns, bridges, braces, and other dental prostheses according to dentists' prescriptions.

Dental Assistant

  • Greet and prepare patients, record health history, schedule visits, and bookkeeping. Assist Dentists during procedures: take and develop x-rays, prepare dental compounds; take, pour and trim dental impressions, and seat temporary restorations. Maintain instruments and supplies.

Dental Hygienist

  • A licensed professional with hands-on preventive healthcare responsibilities: examine, clean and polish teeth; administer local anesthetics; place temporary and permanent fillings; take impressions of teeth; give fluoride treatments; apply sealants; and take and process X-rays. Hygienists also educate patients regarding proper oral healthcare.
